Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Kicking the Seat Goes Legit

Hey, Kids!  I just learned that Kicking the Seat has been accepted as Member #823 in The Large Association of Movie Blogs!

As you might expect, it's a hub for movie review sites from all around the Web, and its members are asked to participate in all sorts of fun film-related discussions and contests.  There's even a leaderboard to track the most popular sites.

In honor of this occasion, I've included a Links section on the homepage ("Also Starring...") that will take you directly to LAMB, as well as to our long-overdue-for-homepage-pimping brother-in-arms, Chateau Grrr.  I plan to put up actual Web banners, as soon as I figure out how to do that with SquareSpace.

So, check out some of the other members or the flock if you're interested--or just need a break from my tiresome brand of film criticism.

For those of you discovering Kicking the Seat for the first time:

Welcome!

(And, I'm sorry.)
