Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Announcing a Bass-ackwards Marathon of Scream Reviews!

With the forthcoming review of Arn: The Knight Templar, Kicking the Seat will conclude its first Request Queue Marathon. Not to worry: We're launching right into another "theme week" with a multi-part look at Wes Craven's groundbreaking Scream franchise!

That's right, with next weekend's debut of Scream 4, what better time than now to revisit the series that launched a thousand gory, self-aware knock-offs?

Because Kicking the Seat has an insatiable need to feel special, we're going the unconventional (some might call it "stupid") route of reviewing the films in reverse order--sort of.  We'll begin with Scream 3; followed by Scream 2; and then the original Scream--which will lead right into a review of the latest installment.

To shake things up a bit, keep an eye out for critiques of Joe Wright's new action/thriller Hanna and Charles Band's sci-fi epic Evil Bong 3D: The Wrath of Bong!

I hope you'll join us for this week-long celebration of everyone's favorite Ghostface Killer (pictured above)!

As always, thanks for reading!
