Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep180: Bad Santa, Good NASA

It's Christmas Eve, and the Kicking the Seat Podcast wants to put you in the holiday spirit with a blind round table discussion of two movies you probably can't actually see right now: the here-and-gone Bad Santa 2 and the opening-wide-in-a-couple-weeks Hidden Figures! Joining Ian in this unique and lively conversation are David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel, and Emmanuel Noisette of Eman's Movie Reviews.

Can Ian convince his friends that we needed more Willie Soke in our lives? And are Eman and David's enthusiastic endorsements of 2016's brightest year-end hidden gem enough to quiet Ian's obnoxiously skeptical brain? You'll find out on this spoiler-light, laugh-heavy episode!

Whether you're wrapping presents or counting the hours 'til all this seasonal merriment dies down, Episode 180 will make you want to set something on fire warm your heart!
