Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep182: Twenty-Sixteen: The Final Chapter (Part 2)

The end is near! Yes, the Kicking the Seat Podcast closes out 2016 with a look back at the top ten episodes of this banner, fifty-five-episode year. From filmmaker interviews to round tables both revelatory and ridiculous (and always riveting), Ian shares some highlights from the show that should not have even existed, let alone become a weekly staple of unique film commentary.

Also, Ian shares some more news about We Believe in Dinosaurs, and reveals his top sixteen movies of the year!

Episode 182 ain't your average clips show, but then again 2016 wasn't your average year!
