Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep143: Going Places with MICHEL GONDRY!

This week, the Kicking the Seat Podcast takes a quick spin with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michel Gondry, whose new film, Microbe & Gasoline, opens today at the Music Box Theatre. Ian spoke with the director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind, and The Green Hornet over July 4th weekend, and, as you'll hear in the intro, there was some suitably wacky drama leading up to the eight-minute phone call!

Also, Ian shares some thoughts on upcoming Shout! Factory releases and gives a heads-up on a special 30th anniversary screening of Big Trouble in Little China, hosted by friend of the show, David Fowlie.

Strap in and hit the road with the whimsical, DIY mini-masterpiece that is Episode 143!
