Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep266: Late Screening: We're Ready to Believe You!

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and ColeTries.com bring you a Scary Season edition of Late Screening, with a look at Ivan Reitman's blockbuster paranormal-action-comedy, Ghostbusters

Cole Rush and Erin Maturo watched the film for the first time last week with Ian, who'd seen the pop-culture staple a lot since its 1984 release. The ensuing conversation may surprise you, but not nearly as much as it surprised Ian, who had to reassess his nearly lifelong fandom. Also up for discussion are the films of John Hughes, Seth MacFarlane's The Orville, and the odd, enduring legacy of Boy Meets World!

Plus, Kicking the Seat is running a killer new contest that's as cool as they come!

Episode 266 would never step on a church in your town!
