Ep230: Zoe Lister-Jones' Rock Therapy

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast welcomes writer/director/actress Zoe Lister-Jones for a brief chat about her cutting-edge (and just plain cutting) new dramedy, Band Aid! The movie follows married artists Anna (Lister-Jones) and Ben (Adam Pally) as they translate their frequent arguments into rock songs, becoming one of cinema's unlikeliest break-out bands. The filmmaker talks about where the inspiration came from; the joy of discovering dramatic chops in traditionally comic actors; and just how much work goes into making songs look totally improvised on screen.

Also, Ian gives a brief nod to Robin Swicord's Wakefield (teasing a longer discussion down the road), and talks about the trial-and-error of putting together questions for short-form interviews.

Band Aid opens at Chicago's Music Box Theatre this Friday, June 16th, and Ian gives it his highest possible recommendation.

So pump up the volume as Episode 230 turns your troubles into tunes!
