Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep378: Détente

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie find themselves at odds over Pawel Pawlikowski's Academy Award-nominated drama, Cold War! This post-World War II Polish love story challenged both the guys, but only one of them came away from it with their sanity intact. Ian and David eased the tensions (a bit) with some Oscar-nominations talk--a warm-up to a larger discussion that will follow next month's awards show.

Also, Ian reminds you about this Thursdays "An Evening Jawing with Richard Dreyfuss", at the Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove; invites you to read (and listen to!) David's interview with Mr. Dreyfuss; and asks you to check out a recent 90 Under 90 Podcast, in which he talks The Station Agent with Jeremy and Dan Eden!

Episode 378 is in love with love!
