Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep242: War All the Time

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Erik Childress of the Movie Madness Podcast bust out the champagne and trauma blankets for a look at Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk! In this (mostly) spoiler-free episode, the guys provide their immediate reactions to a film that will require multiple viewings in order to appreciate.

How does this intense and utterly immersive World War II drama compare to others of its kind? Where does it fall in the Nolan filmography? And just how badly does Ian need to revisit Inception?

The answers to all these questions, and more, await in this lively and insightful chat. Also, Ian tells you where you can see Dunkirk, as it was meant to be seen, in Chicago this week!

Episode 242 is definitely one for the history books!
