Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep377: A Bigger Boat (with RICHARD DREYFUSS!)

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast navigates exciting new waters with Richard Dreyfuss! Ahead of next Thursday's appearance at the Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove, IL (where the Academy award-winning actor, philanthropist, and Hollywood icon will engage fans in a Q&A before a special screening of Jaws), he spoke briefly with Ian about the parallels between himself and his characters; how the movie business affects movies; and about his latest Netflix film, The Last Laugh, co-starring Chevy Chase and Andie MacDowell!

Then, Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie joins Ian for an extended look at The Last Laugh, as well as to swap behind-the-scenes stories of his interview with Mr. Dreyfuss (coming soon to Keeping it Reel!).

Lastly, Ian points listeners to his just-published "Best of 2018" list, and braces for impact.

Episode 377 isn't afraid to go back in the water!
