Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep322: Incredibility Gap

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel slap on some spandex and dive head-first into one of this summer's most highly anticipated sequels, Incredibles 2! Brad Bird's long, long, long-awaited sequel to the 2004 Pixar sensation is a different movie from what the guys expected--in ways both welcome and not-so-welcome.

It's a spoilerific discussion, for sure, covering character motivations, social-justice plot overlays, and the future of the super-heroic Parr family.

Also, the Music Box Theatre will be ground zero for Cinepocalypse next week, and Ian has info on special screenings, guests, and tickets!

Episode 322 still believes that capes are dangerous!
