Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep338: Scuola Argento: DEEP RED

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast enrolls full-time in "Argento School" with guests Aaron Christensen of Horror 101 with Dr. A.C. and Jason Coffman of Daily Grindhouse! Earlier this year, the guys talked about Italian horror icon Dario Argento's Suspiria and Opera, and now they're back with a look at 1975's blood-drenched giallo, Deep Red (aka Profondo Rosso!).

Where does this bizarre thriller/rom-com rank in the maestro's filmography? What separates a giallo from a slasher film? And is there good reason to be skeptical about the upcoming Suspiria remake?

The answers to these questions, along with updates on what Aaron and Jason are up to, creatively, await!

Episode 338 only has one outfit, and it's dashing!
