Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Send Me to the Movies! Part 1

Hey, Gang! I've just launched a new poll that puts this weekend's new movie review in your hands!

Will I discover ghosts and/or Autobots on the moon in Apollo 18?

Will the predatory, PG-13 mayhem of Shark Night 3D turn me off of Dead Teenager Movies altogether?

Or will I finally learn what all the fuss is about when I go to see The Help?

Whichever film has the most votes by 11am on 9/2 wins.

Holy exclamations! That's tomorrow!

Better get to voting. You know what they say, "Be heard or be third!"*

*No one says that.

Update: This poll is now closed.

Don't Be Absent for "Absentia"!
