Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep142: Kneel Before Zyder!

For this week's second blockbuster episode, David Fowlie of Keeping It Reel joins Ian to discuss Warner Bros' just-released Blu-ray of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition! Does the additional thirty minutes help or hurt the overall film? Does watching the same, long movie twice in a week affect one's appreciation of it? And how important is packaging when it comes to physical media? We'll use our super-sleuthing skills to get to the bottom of these and other burning(ish) questions!

Also, Ian teases upcoming reviews of some new home video releases from Shout! Factory and Olive Films, and drops a very special announcement that is sure to have Manos: The Hands of Fate fans scrambling to book hotel and airfare in Chicago!

Whether you love or hate Dawn of Justice, Episode 142 promises the World's Finest discussion about it!
