Welcome to Kicking the Seat!

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.

Ep354: Such Heroic Nonsense

Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Keeping it Reel's David Fowlie wage a battle to destroy the evil forces of nostalgia with a look at Nelson Shin's The Transformers: The Movie! Last week, the guys attended a one-night-only Fathom Event that broke something in Ian's heart. The 1986 2D epic, which has been a source of uncontrollable nerd tears for over three decades, may have finally lost a grip on one of its most ardent supporters.

Listen in as David and Ian talk about the toys, the 'toons, and the never-ending live-action remakes from Michael Bay. Part movie-review podcast, part therapy session over coffee--this one may just transform the way you look at your childhood.

When all hell's breaking loose, Episode 354 will be right in the eye of the storm!
